The Beverly Hills Hotel
I recently traveled to California for my host agency’s annual conference where I met with 150+ hoteliers and partners. I wasn’t able to attend last year, so I was excited to be in person for this years event! It’s always great to be in a room full of travel partners and colleagues! Prior to the conference I stayed at the iconic Beverly Hills Hotel in Los Angeles. The property is deeply rooted in history and it was a joy to experience!
A Little History
The Beverly Hills Hotel opened its doors on May 12, 1912, two years before Beverly Hills was officially incorporated as a city. Developed by Margaret J. Anderson, the hotel quickly became a destination for Hollywood's elite and helped establish Beverly Hills as one of Los Angeles' most desirable neighborhoods.
Its distinctive pink exterior, which inspired the nickname "Pink Palace," was chosen to complement the colors of the California sunset. Today, many of the hotel's most recognizable design elements remain: the signature red carpet entrance, iconic banana leaf wallpaper designed by C.W. Stockwell, and green-and-white striped accents.
Throughout the decades, The Beverly Hills Hotel has welcomed many notable guests. From the Duke and Duchess of Windsor and Princess Margaret to Frank Sinatra, John Wayne, Henry Fonda, and Marilyn Monroe, the hotel's history is intertwined with some of the most recognizable names of the 20th century. Since 1996, the hotel has been part of Dorchester Collection, a portfolio of legendary luxury properties that also includes The Dorchester and Coworth Park in England, along with Le Meurice and Hôtel Plaza Athénée in Paris.
My Experience at The Beverly Hills Hotel
With a property as iconic as The Beverly Hills Hotel, my expectations were naturally high. I'm happy to say that my experience lived up to the property’s reputation. What stood out most during my stay was the service. The staff was consistently friendly, attentive, and responsive, creating an atmosphere that felt genuinely welcoming. There is something particularly special about a hotel that maintains such a high standard of hospitality while still making guests feel completely at ease.
The Accommodations
During my stay, I stayed in a Superior Room with a Balcony. The room was light-filled, beautifully maintained, and exceptionally comfortable, with an atmosphere that felt worlds away from the energy of Los Angeles. Since I traveled from the East Coast and have two little ones at home, I appreciated how quiet the room was, allowing me to relax before jumping into a busy work event. While The Beverly Hills Hotel is celebrated for its history and iconic public spaces, I found the accommodations equally impressive.
Dining at The Beverly Hills Hotel
Dining was another highlight of my stay. I enjoyed breakfast at the iconic Polo Lounge, as well as in-room dining, and both were exceptional experiences. The quality of the food, attention to detail, and level of service impressed me in each setting. The Polo Lounge is an experience in itself, with its storied Hollywood history and quintessential Beverly Hills atmosphere. In-room dining offered the same elevated quality and attentive service in the comfort of my robe in my room.
A True Sense of Place
Overall, what I appreciated most was the hotel's extraordinary sense of place. Los Angeles is a sprawling, bustling city, yet The Beverly Hills Hotel manages to feel like a world of its own. Stepping onto the property feels like entering another era, one defined by old Hollywood glamour and understated luxury.
Who Is The Beverly Hills Hotel Best For?
I recommend The Beverly Hills Hotel for travelers who appreciate historic properties, classic luxury, and a strong sense of place. It's an excellent choice for couples planning a special getaway, travelers visiting Los Angeles for the first time, or returning guests who want a more intimate, resort-like atmosphere while remaining close to shopping, dining, and cultural attractions. For those who value exceptional service and hotels with a story to tell, The Beverly Hills Hotel offers an experience that sets it apart from a contemporary luxury property.
